Growing up in my parents’ house, when it came time to giving each other Christmas gifts it was tradition to give both “practical” and “impractical” gifts. Getting something to enjoy with the family that day and something to use in the long term. As I moved out into my own apartment, I’ve grown to really enjoy giving others more personalized gifts for holidays and birthdays. The less big-brand/store-bought, the more personal, the better, in my opinion.
Here are a few things that I’ve found that are beautiful gift ideas for your loved ones this holiday season:
A cute little Polaroid camera with a lot of personality! Make lo-fi prints instantly. Film is a little expensive, but the kitschy little photos it makes are so worth it. I’ve had pretty good luck finding cheaper film on Amazon. This might be the least practical item on my list, but then again I’m a firm believer that everyone needs a little more fun photography in their lives. It’s a sleeker, more modern version of the former Intax cameras.
Joshua Tree Silkscreen Pennant from miriamdema on Etsy, $25
I’m a complete sucker for things that remind me of treasured places and adventures. This pennant is a nod to one of my favorite national parks, Joshua Tree, right in my own “backyard” near San Diego. It’s got a great vintage feel and would be a great addition to any home.
Plants are food for the soul and the eyes. I love having indoor plants scattered around my apartment. There’s something poetic and soothing about having a piece of the outdoors displayed indoors. Scoutmob has a ton of other really rad gifts at every price range, a lot of which are handmade by talented artisans.
Two things that very few people I know don’t like: cookies and Golden Retrievers. It’s a double win in my book. If you’ve got another pup at home that would be upset by your choice in breed of cookie cutter, NameThatCookie has other variations for sale.
