Thursday Things: Confessions and Projects

An excerpt of Confessions of a Comma Queen by Mary Norris resonated with me this week. Working in IT, it’s always been the name of the game to be flexible in working with end users, professors, and other IT professionals. This also involves remaining on kilter when you otherwise want to type “LOL” or “guess you’re SOL” when someone really screws something up big time. The reality of that is those screw ups keep the sys admin, desktop tech, and network admin in business. I’ve heard this discussion about language and emails centered around gender… but the irony of it for me is there are a ton of men that are guilty of the extra exclamation point or smiley at the end of emails. I still believe at the end of the day that professional is silver, but genuine is golden.

To continue on my discussion about the Apartment Therapy January Cure project, I’m thinking about building out a gallery wall near my dining room table. Those photo ledges from IKEA seem like the best course of action. For me the hold up really isn’t in the deployment but in the choice of what art to hang. More black and white darkroom prints might make a comeback. These examples of gallery walls from Bloglovin’ are pretty exceptional.

These indoor olive trees are beautiful. Maybe I need to branch out of the succulent category and check these out?

My personal yoga goal has taken a little bit of a backseat to other projects lately, but I have been trying to practice at least every other day. I’m on this video from Yoga with Adriene. If you haven’t tried any of her videos and you’re into yoga, they’re for you. A few years back I tried Pure Barre with one of my best girlfriends and it was intense, and probably not for me. YwA is far from intense- it’s all about feeling good wherever you are. Even if you can’t quite touch your toes on a forward fold yet. I am really getting proud of my side plank.

I’m working on some new ideas for the blog- mainly at an intersection of travel and photography. Keep in touch on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram– or subscribe to email updates on the right for announcements. Also, please feel free to share Coffee and Cactus with friends who might enjoy it!

Make it a great week,
